In Lima, the capital of Peru, there has been a project for museum of contemporary art for 40 years, and after this time there is not yet even an exhibition room completed. Two so called museums of contemporary art have been created in the towns of Arequipa and Trujillo, both with severe limitations and omissions. On the other hand, there are no museum projects or art projects inclusive of country side communities, the access of these communities to contemporary art and to the benefits that they can receive from it as a social catalyst, haven't been exploried. This problem finds parallels in other countries of Latin America and the main reason seems to be that governments have been for too long trying to create models that depart from their own reality. |
